Abstract

The Internet has evolved greatly from its original incarnation. Artificial Intelligence (AI) poses significant challenges to the existing internet architecture. It does not match well with today’s network stack, designed to be a purely transparent carrier of packets. As a result, AI service providers resort to prohibitively expensive computing power and the privacy and ownership of users’ data are forfeited. To address these challenges, we propose the Computing-Oriented Network Architecture (CONA), which revisits the design of the Internet protocol stack to meet the need for AI and computationally intensive applications.
